A cooperative for generations

Our roots date back to 1927 when 17 purchasing cooperatives decided to join forces with the goal of collectively organising the purchase of food. To this end, they founded the ‘Revisionsverband der Westkaufgenossenschaften’ (Western Buying Co-operatives Auditing Association), or REWE for short. In the decades that followed, the cooperative evolved into a strong, internationally oriented group of companies that has remained true to the founding principle ‘one for all and all for one’. Our culture has been shaped for generations by sustainability in thought and deed as well as by a strong sense of unity. These values also underpin our cooperative organisation.
