Our purpose

Together, we are the chief source of information on policy questions relating to the food retail sector and tourism in Germany.

    The cooperatively organised REWE Group is one of the largest companies in Germany. In our various guises – rural and city-center convenience stores, specialists for the “on-the-go”-supply, purveyors of dream holidays, DIYer’s paradise – we help more than 50 million customers the length and breadth of Germany each week. For this reason, we believe we have a responsibility to introduce a business perspective to the dialogue between decision-makers in politics, economics and society. This dialogue is vital if we are to achieve the best outcomes for our customers and our colleagues.

    With our size and national presence come responsibility. We want to harness our practical expertise and experience to guide policy and work together to address the challenges facing retailers and the economy. Thanks to our direct contact with customers, we know exactly what people in Germany care about. As the REWE Group’s Policy Team, we see ourselves as intermediaries between the different political, customer, professional and independent retailer stakeholders. Our stores are more than shopping locations; they are places where people meet and interact. Being a communication and information platform for policy, business and society is central to our purpose.

    The REWE Group is a cooperative, and the values of transparency, sustainability and accountability are therefore at the very heart of what we do, as an employer, as retailers and in terms of our political engagement. Our independent retailers play a key role in shaping the course of the REWE Group’s business. This retail community underpins our longer-term corporate culture, which sets us apart from many listed companies. In our view, the cooperative nature of our business, with its long-term strategy of economic sustainability, is the decisive factor in our success and our sense of responsibility, as well as crisis-proof and future-oriented.

  • Where we want to go

    With our large workforce and our firm urban and rural roots, we are ahead of the game when it comes to identifying new developments and trends. As a policy team, our aim is to harness this knowledge in order to future-proof the REWE Group’s ability to operate in a tough competitive market. To make this happen, we want to outline the relevant frameworks and promote our positions on policy in discussions with policy-makers. The same applies to our retail formats across Europe, which we, as a cooperative, have successfully operated for decades. Discussions with a wide range of people have given us a broad insight into the needs of our customers, retailers and colleagues. The aim of the REWE Group’s Policy Team is to give voice to these needs and to be an approachable intermediary between policy-makers and people.

Our team

Our team members work at our head office in Cologne, as well as in Berlin and Brussels. Our diverse backgrounds enable us to examine issues from a range of viewpoints. We combine our professional expertise with the ability to explore new avenues and are a source of specialist information for our political contacts.
