In 1927, 17 purchasing cooperatives joined forces and founded the ‘Revisionsverband der Westkaufgenossenschaften’ (Western Buying Co-operatives Auditing Association) – or REWE for short – with the goal of collectively organising the purchase of food. Today, the cooperative has an international presence and enjoys success in both the retail and tourism sectors. As a cooperative with a history dating back more than 90 years, we understand our ecological and social responsibility towards future generations. We are committed to safeguarding a sustainable future.

A global village

From regional to global – we procure the quality products our customers want.

Today, every retail business offers international product ranges as standard. Consumer purchases are becoming increasingly spontaneous and situational. Over the years, REWE Group has established a dense, vibrant procurement network with REWE Far East and its offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok, and Istanbul playing a central role. More than 100 experts are also responsible for procuring a high-quality non-food range.

In 2016, REWE Group was one of the founding members of EURELEC, a joint venture set up to strengthen the company’s procurement position within the highly competitive European food market.
